ABOUT US

The network sparks collaboration with leading partners from around the globe.

AT A GLANCE

The MENA Data Platform is supported by the International Development Research Center (IDRC) and its Open Data for Development global partnership (OD4D). The partnership works on a wide-range of projects ranging from Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa to the Sub-Saharan Africa. The global partnership aims to further the creation of locally-driven and sustainable data ecosystems by collaborating with civil society, local institutions and innovators throughout different regions.

The overriding aim is to harness open data initiatives to ensure they benefit access to knowledge, data-driven solutions and economic innovation in developing countries.

OD4D ‘MENA’

The platform hosts the collaborative efforts undertaken by the Open Data for Development network in the Middle East and North Africa (ODMENA). The network includes countries such as Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Palestine and Lebanon and works with universities, research centers, civil society organizations and media agencies throughout.

The platform is hosted by the coordinator of the ODMENA; the Access to Knowledge for Development Center (A2K4D), hosted at the American University in Cairo (AUC). A2K4D was established in 2010 as a regional center for scholarship, research, and policy analysis on access to knowledge, intellectual property, and human development. The Cairo-based center contributes policy-oriented research that investigates the challenges facing access to knowledge and the implications on human development in the Middle East and Africa.
